Private Equity International: 'Public and private markets’ role reversal'
Today, the roles of public and private markets have almost completely reversed from those in the 1980s. When it comes to raising new capital, public markets are the realm of opportunistic IPOs, while private markets are the realm of real economy investment and strategic corporate development, writes Steffen Meister, the Executive Chairman of the Board at Partners Group, in Private Equity International. Steffen argues this role reversal will attract new entrants to private markets, resulting in firms differentiating themselves between active and passive investment approaches. Truly active private markets firms, which are business builders focused on value creation, will be best positioned to deliver sustainable returns in the future.
